Historic Inn - Built 1878

Welcome to the Whistle Stop Inn,  conveniently located in the center of historic downtown Dillsboro...a Railroad town since the 1800's! Once home to a train conductor, the  town's mayor, and a prominent doctor with family ties to Daniel Boone! The Whistle Stop now serves as an inn! Come join us. Book your weekend getaway, a family vacation, or even make the most of business travel.

Things to do in Dillsboro

Ride a train! Catch a ride on the 1702, a fully restored steam train, at the nearby Great Smoky Mountain Railroad, for the sightseeing trip of a lifetime! Rent a tube, raft or kayack at nearby Dillsboro River Company. Browse the many shops in Dillsboro. We have lots of craft shops, plus gifts, jewelry, pottery, art, clothing boutiques, an old-timey general store and mercantile, a chocolate factory, ice cream & soda fountain, a year round Christmas shop...and lots more to see and do!

Blakey - The Inn Greeter

Blakey is happy to have guests share his home!  Blakey's favorite activities are, napping, snacking and going for car rides and walks around town with Kate and Pappaw Frank. 

Kate Hudson-Herold

Welcome to The Whistle Stop! I'm Kate. I would be delighted to host your get-away!  Now retired from careers in both writing and healthcare, I am happily enjoying being a full time inn keeper!  If you have questions or would like more information about my inn, or if you've decided to book your stay, I would love to talk to you! My personal cell is 828-553-2632. 

Baby Girl - Inn Greeter

Baby Girl keeps an eye on things around the inn...and lets Kate know when guests have arrived! You'll probably catch a glimpse of Baby Girl peeking at you from around the curtain as you come and go. 

Coffee Station & Breakfast Room

Complimentary Self-serve breakfast included!

Breakfast may include muffins, bagels, hot & cold cereal, fruit and juice. 


At our coffee station, you will find a variety of tradtional & flavored coffee, tea, hot cocoa & apple cider. 


The breakfast room is open to guests around the clock. Open for early risers, and late night snackers!

Beginning with our annual Easter Hat parade in the spring, our Summer Arts and Crafts shows, to our Colorfest & pottery festival in the fall, and the ever popular Lights & Luminaries the first two weekends in December, Dillsboro is known for its many festivals throughout the year, so be sure to check out a list of upcoming events!

There are several great places to eat, right here in town...all just steps away from the inn! 


*The Haywood Smokehouse* The best BBQ around! Known for its phenomenal smoked brisket and mouthwatering side dishes and desserts! Two words...homemade Mac-n-cheese! Our guests and locals give this restaurant rave reviews! 


*Boots Steakhouse* Just around the corner on Front Street. Dine under a canopy of lights! The unique courtyard offers an outdoor dining experience you won't soon forget! Live music, a waterfall fountain, a cozy fire...oh, and the perfectly prepared hand-cut steaks, it's sure to be a night to remember! 


*Kostas Family Restaurant* Greek, American and Italian cuisine. A  favorite among locals! Authentic Gyros with creamy tzatziki sauce, crisp salad's, homestyle favorites like meatloaf and mashed potatos,   Amazing desserts like Keylime pie and tiramisu!  Quick seating, outdoor seating, easily accessible. 


*Lees at the Depot*  food, wine and  Entertainment. Lees has an eclectic menu, a full bar, indoor & outdoor seating on Scott's Creek. 


*The Jarrett House* Served family style. Delicious home cooking. 


*The Well House Deli* located in the Riverwood shops building. Fantastic cold and hot sandwiches, like  chicken grape salad on a pita, savory Ruben sandwiches, hot pastrami on rye. Plus, traditional favorites like prime rib.

Perhaps you just want to relax...so get take-out from any of our restaurants, then grab a rocking chair or hop in the porch swing, sit a spell on our spacious front porch overlooking downtown Dillsboro. 


A  Continental Breakfast is included in your stay. Our front porch offers you time to kick back and watch the day come alive while you sip your morning coffee.
